New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra came under fire on Wednesday after independent journalist Ajit Anjum claimed she blocked him on X (formerly Twitter) following his criticism of the ruling party over the horrific Kolkata rape-murder case. Anjum, who has been vocal about the incident, tagged Moitra in a post questioning the TMC's response to the brutal crime.

In a Hindi post on X, Anjum expressed his disappointment with Moitra's actions, stating, "When I tagged Mahua Moitra with a question about the brutality that happened to a doctor's daughter in Bengal, she blocked me. Waah, Madam, Waah! You question Modi's government with sharp criticism every day, but when I asked a single question about your own government, you immediately blocked me. Can you not handle a single question?"

Anjum lashes down

Anjum further criticized Moitra for what he perceived as hypocrisy, accusing her of only being vocal about issues in other states while ignoring those in her own. "Do you only know how to ask questions? Is giving lectures on freedom of expression all you're good at? A daughter was brutalized under your rule, and no one can even ask you a question. Well, no worries. That’s why people say – even hypocrisy has its limits," he added.

In another scathing post, Anjum slammed Moitra for her alleged intolerance, saying, "Even hypocrisy has its limits, Madam Mahua Moitra. In your state, asking for an answer about the brutality inflicted on a daughter means getting blocked. Don’t talk about freedom of expression now."

Anjum had previously shared a video featuring a relative of the Kolkata rape victim, urging TMC leaders, including Moitra, to empathize with the family's pain and take action. Following his posts, Moitra's decision to block him on X sparked outrage among social media users, who accused her of hypocrisy.

One user wrote, "Mahua Moitra, who constantly targets Om Birla in the Lok Sabha for blocking the voices of opposition leaders, is herself blocking people on X just for asking her questions about the Bengal horror."
