New Delhi: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi has called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the recent NEET exam paper leak scandal. Gandhi criticized Modi for holding 'Pariksha pe Charcha' while remaining silent on issues like the NEET paper leak and the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Political confrontation over consensus

In an editorial for The Hindu, Sonia Gandhi accused Prime Minister Modi of prioritizing confrontation over consensus in politics. "The Prime Minister continues as if nothing has changed. He preaches the value of consensus but continues to value confrontation," she wrote.

Understanding the electoral verdict

Gandhi expressed disappointment with Modi's reaction to the Lok Sabha election results. She stated, "There is not the slightest evidence that he has understood the verdict and reflected on the message sent to him by millions of voters."

Sonia Gandhi's criticism

On June 4, 2024, the electorate's verdict was clear, signaling a defeat for PM Modi, who had presented himself with a divine status during the campaign. Gandhi criticized Modi for failing to acknowledge the electorate's rejection of divisiveness and discord.

Lok Sabha speaker election

Gandhi highlighted the INDIA bloc's response to the Prime Minister's request for unanimity in the Speaker's election. The opposition requested the Deputy Speaker position for one of their members, a request deemed unacceptable by the government.

References to the Emergency

Gandhi criticized PM Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for bringing up the Emergency, an event from 1975-77, to divert attention from current issues. She emphasized that the 1977 electoral verdict was a historical rejection of the Emergency, accepted unequivocally by the Congress.

Addressing the NEET paper leak

Gandhi condemned the government's response to the NEET paper leak, highlighting the Education Minister's denial of the issue's magnitude and Modi's silence on the matter. She emphasized the impact of the leaks on students and their families.

Manipur violence

Gandhi also addressed the violence in Manipur, criticizing Modi for not visiting the state or meeting with its political leaders. She pointed out the BJP's recent loss of both Lok Sabha seats in Manipur, attributing it to the mishandling of the crisis.

Sonia Gandhi's editorial reflects deep dissatisfaction with PM Modi's handling of various national issues, urging him to reflect on the electorate's message and adopt a more inclusive and responsive approach.
