Delhi Fog (ANI)
In a tragic incident, at least four people lost their lives on Saturday after a serious road accident in Hisar, Haryana. According to reports from the IANS news agency, the accident occurred in the early morning hours when thick fog reduced visibility to dangerously low levels. Dense fog has been blanketing the region for days, severely impacting road safety and leading to several similar accidents across Punjab and Haryana.
The thick fog that has engulfed most parts of Punjab and Haryana since Friday severely affected the visibility and rendered travel risky. Regional meteorological experts said that though the temperatures have been hovering around normal limits, the thick fog created severe discomfort. This weather phenomenon has been impacting travel for days as reduced visibility had been reported in several cities as well as highways.

Just a few hours earlier than the accident in Hisar, there was another critical accident of this kind along the Bathinda-Dabwali road in Punjab, where a private passenger bus collided head on with a truck. At least 15 people are said to have been injured. The authorities are attributing the disaster to the low visibility due to fog coupled with reckless driving. According to reports, the truck driver was said to be driving on the wrong side of the road when the collision took place near Gurusar and Sainiwala villages.
Dense fog covered the national capital, Delhi, on Saturday morning, as the visibility of several parts of the city continued to be around zero for the second day, grounding or delaying air travel. In fact, such a severe condition forced the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to take extreme measures on Friday as its visibility went as low as zero and the RVR between 100 and 250 meters that led to delay of more than 400 flights.
The fog, together with relatively still surface winds, was quite stubborn and kept obstructing air and rail movement all over the area. It was the cause of serious delay for 81 trains and resulted in the diversion of 15 flights. Officials of the Meteorological Department said the visibility was nearly zero from 11:30 pm on Friday to early hours on Saturday and thus was an impediment for air travel.
This dense fog in Delhi and its adjacent areas has caused not only transportation disruptions but also increased concerns over safety. The thick fog conditions have resulted in poor road visibility, making driving dangerous, as is seen by the fatal accidents in Haryana and Punjab. With thick fog expected to persist, authorities have cautioned commuters to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols while traveling on the roads or through the air.
