Veteran BJP politician, former deputy PM Lal Krishna Advani admitted to AIIMS in Delhi

Advani was formally declared the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the 2009 general elections by the Parliamentary Board on December 10, 2007. Advani, however, made it possible for Sushma Swaraj to take over as Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha after the Congress and its allies won the 2009 general elections of parliament.

On June 26, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani were admitted to the national capital's AIIMS (AIIMS) on  Wednesday due to an issue relating to his advanced age. He is currently under the care of a physician from AIIMS's geriatric section. His family members report that he is in good health.

Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (modern-day Pakistan), and he became a Swayamsevak of the RSS in 1942. From 1986 to 1990, again from 1993 to 1998, and then from 2004 to 2005, he presided over the BJP as national president. The longest-serving party president since the party's founding in 1980 was Advani.

LK Advani concluded over thirty years of legislative service as Atal Bihari Vajpayee's home minister and then deputy prime minister (1999–2004). According to the official website, Advani was presumed to be the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the general elections that ended on May 16, 2009, because he was the Leader of the Opposition in a parliamentary democracy.
