A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Maharashtra’s Mumbai where a pregnant woman and her baby have died as doctors in the hospital carried out caesarian delivery using a torch of a mobile phone. It is even more shocking that the incident happened at the hospital run by India’s richest civic body – the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), whose budget is Rs 52,000 crore.

The victim has been identified as Sahidun. To facilitate Sahidun's delivery, Khusruddin Ansari, a specially abled man without a leg, managed to have his 26-year-old wife admitted to the Sushma Swaraj maternity home. The couple got married 11 months back.
According to the family, the maternity home's generator was left off for three hours on Monday when the power went out. The family alleged another delivery also took place in the dark, even after they lost mother and child.

The incident happened on April 29 and since then the family has been protesting outside the hospital, following which BMC has ordered an inquiry into the case.

According to the sources, while speaking to the media, the victim’s mother-in-law informed that both mother and child were healthy at the time of delivery and the family was informed that a normal delivery would take place. But doctors made an incision and came to get a signature for a c-section. The family has also shared the photos of scene when the c-section was carried out in the operation theater in the dark.
