New Delhi: A deeply distressing case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi where a 45-year-old man allegedly murdered his 22-year-old niece after a prolonged affair. The shocking turn of events reveals that the man, who was having a secret relationship with his brother-in-law's daughter, ultimately ended her life when he learned of her arranged marriage.

The case centers around a 45-year-old man who, according to the police, had been involved in an affair with his brother-in-law's daughter for the past two years. The relationship seemed stable until the girl's family arranged her marriage. Disturbed by the news, the uncle, identified as Manikant Dwivedi, confronted the young woman about the marriage and, in a fit of rage, killed her.

Accused tries to cover up crime by misleading victim's family

Following the murder, Dwivedi attempted to cover his tracks by disposing of the body. He placed the deceased in an unfinished house and then misled the girl's family by claiming she had run away. Dwivedi’s deceit did not last long, as the police eventually uncovered the truth.

The incident occurred in the Behta Gokul police station area of Hardoi district. On August 21, the young woman had visited her maternal uncle’s home in Sugar Mill Colony with her father for the Rakshabandhan festival. After dropping off his daughter, the father returned home. The next day, Dwivedi informed him that the girl had disappeared. This prompted the father to file a missing person’s report against his brother-in-law.

Body found in abandoned house

The search for the girl led her family to a house in Sugar Mill Colony, but no one was found there. When the police arrived and began questioning Dwivedi, the grim details of the crime began to emerge. It was revealed that Dwivedi and the girl had been romantically involved for two years, but the situation changed drastically when her father arranged her marriage.

In a bid to conceal his crime, Dwivedi took the girl’s body in a water-carrying vehicle and discarded it in an under-construction house in Kotwali Dehat police station area. Additionally, he attempted to mislead the investigation by throwing her mobile phone out of a moving bus.

Investigation underway

The police, acting on the information provided by Dwivedi, recovered the girl's body and have sent it for a post-mortem examination. The case is under further investigation with legal actions being pursued against Manikant Dwivedi.
