New Delhi: In a heart-wrenching incident from Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, a man was forced to sell his two-year-old son to settle hospital bills and secure the release of his wife and newborn. Harish Patel, the father, lacked the money to pay the hospital's Rs. 4000 bill. Desperate and advised by hospital staff, he sold his second child to a couple for Rs. 20,000. 

Financial desperation leads to tragic decision

Harish Patel’s wife gave birth at a private hospital in Kushinagar. However, unable to pay the modest hospital bill, Harish was faced with an unimaginable decision. The hospital staff allegedly refused to release his wife and newborn until the fees were settled. Under immense pressure, Harish sold his two-year-old son, a heart-breaking choice made out of sheer desperation.

Police intervene to rescue child 

Authorities quickly responded, recovering the child safely. Five individuals, including the couple who purchased the child and two hospital employees, have been arrested. The police confirmed that the sale was facilitated under fake adoption documents.

Investigation underway

The accused, including Bhola Yadav (the buyer), mediator Amresh Yadav, Tara Kushwaha, and hospital staff, have been detained. This case has highlighted the urgent need for scrutiny of unethical practices in medical facilities and child welfare laws.

The distressing event has ignited public outrage across Kushinagar, with many condemning the actions of the hospital and those involved in facilitating the sale. The local administration has vowed to investigate the incident thoroughly and take strict action.
