Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, four individuals have been charged following the discovery of meat inside a temple in a village in Uttar Pradesh, as informed by the local police on Sunday.

According to SHO Dinesh Pathak of Sikanderpur Police Station, the discovery was made at the Hanuman temple located in the Maldah Chatti area during Saturday afternoon. The presence of the meat inside the temple infuriated the templegoers, leading them to stage a protest by blocking the Sikandarpur-Belthra highway.

Community response

The protest only came to an end after police intervention and assurances of action against those responsible. Pathak mentioned that the complaint, filed by Amber Pandey, a member of a Hindu right-wing group, resulted in the registration of an FIR under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to the desecration of a place of worship. The accused individuals were identified as Ram Dayal, Ram Niwas, Kamaluddin, and Manzoor Hasan.

Precautionary measures

In anticipation of potential unrest, police have deployed additional forces in the village to maintain peace and prevent any further escalations.

The incident has sparked concerns and heightened tensions within the community, prompting authorities to take swift action to address the situation and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
