New Delhi: A horrific incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly where a resident of Moti Lal Bajariya in Kila, Awadhesh Mishra, fell victim to a distressing cyber fraud incident where he was coerced into transferring Rs 1.33 lakh to scammers. The ordeal began on July 31 when Awadhesh, a salesman by profession, received a WhatsApp call from a number displaying a profile picture of a police officer. The caller claimed that Awadhesh's son, Arun Mishra, employed at Fena company, had been implicated in a sex racket and demanded Rs 50,000 to secure his release.
Awadhesh was skeptical at first, but the caller's fake imitation of his son Arun's voice made him anxious. He reluctantly transferred Rs 20,000 as directed. The fraudster persisted, using multiple numbers to intensify threats and bully Awadhesh into transferring a further Rs 1.13 lakh.
Distraught by the unfolding events, Awadhesh promptly reported the incident to the Kila police station, detailing the fraudulent tactics employed by the cybercriminals. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this deceitful act.
In a separate incident of fraudulent activity, a Bareilly youth, Shayan Mohammad Siddiqui, residing in Civil Lines, was duped at Rs 1.28 lakh under the guise of securing a visa to Kyrgyzstan. The victim filed a formal complaint at Kotwali police station, acting upon directives from the SSP, implicating Sharoon Ahmed Ansari of Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, New Delhi.
The fraudster, Sharoon Ahmed Ansari, purportedly associated with Spark Education Private Limited, enticed Shayan with promises of facilitating a visa to Kyrgyzstan. After encountering posters advertising these services across various cities, Shayan contacted Ansari for assistance. Subsequently, on April 12, 2023, Shayan met Ansari in Bareilly and handed over Rs 1.28 lakh under the pretext of visa processing fees.
Prompted by the victim's complaint, Kotwali police have launched an investigation into Sharoon Ahmed Ansari's activities, aiming to bring him to justice for preying on individuals seeking legitimate visa services.
