At a Uttar Pradesh wedding, lakhs were reportedly paid in dowry, and the feast included paneer, pulao, and several curries. However, fish and meat were absent. A groom and his family were so enraged by this that they struck the bride's family with kicks and punches and even struck them with sticks. The groom also departed the location after the wedding was called off, and the bride's family reported the groom's attack and dowry to the authorities.

Wedding and the trouble

On Thursday, Abhishek Sharma married Sushma, Dinesh Sharma's daughter, by leading a "baarat," or marriage procession, to Anand Nagar village in the Deoria district. The groom was informed that there would be no non-vegetarian food, thus the "varmala" (exchange of garlands) ceremony was completed as planned.

"The groom started using derogatory words about the lack of non-vegetarian food, along with his father, Surendra Sharma, and others. The bride's father complained to the police in Hindi, saying, "When I objected, Abhishek Sharma, Surendra Sharma, Rampravesh Sharma, Rajkumar, and other unknown persons started assaulting my family with sticks and kicked and punched us.

"Videos depict a brawl between the two families during which punches, kicks, and even chairs are hurled. Additionally, the lawsuit stated that a dowry of almost ₹ 5 lakh was given. "I have given Abhishek Sharma, Surendra Sharma's son, ₹ 4.5 lakh as dowry so he can buy a car. Two gold rings and a tilak set worth ₹ 20,000 were also handed, according to Dinesh Sharma's allegation.
