New Delhi: A shocking incident has come to light from Uttar Pradeshs Bhadohi where a 59-year-old lab technician has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a nurse for over two decades under the pretense of marriage. The case involves Chintamani Sharma, who allegedly exploited his position to manipulate the 36-year-old nurse.The arrest follows a petition filed by the nurse against Sharma in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sabiha Khatun. On Thursday, the CJM directed the police to register a case against Sharma. Subsequently, on Friday, a case was filed under Sections 376 (Rape), 427 (Mischief), and 323 (Causing Hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Suriyawa police station. Sharma was arrested from Varanasi.Exploitation under pretensesAccording to Superintendent of Police (SP) Meenakshi Katyayan, Sharma and the complainant were acquaintances who lived in the same locality. Sharma reportedly began his deceitful tactics under the guise of helping the young woman with her studies. At the time, she was only 15 years old and lived with her family in Varanasi.Sharma allegedly used this guise to foster a relationship, promising marriage while continuously sexually exploiting her. Over time, he reportedly coerced and assaulted her, maintaining a pretense of marriage. Despite secretly marrying someone else, Sharma continued to deceive and exploit the nurse.Contractual job turns into sexual abuseThe SP detailed that after completing her studies, the nurse secured a contractual position at a community health center, where she was also provided with accommodation. Sharma, stationed in Varanasi, would frequently visit Bhadohi and sexually assault the nurse. Whenever she brought up the topic of marriage, Sharma allegedly responded with violence, damaging her property and inflicting physical harm.Nurse seeking justice after betrayalFollowing Sharmas arrest on Friday, the nurse underwent a medical examination and will soon provide a written statement in court. This case underscores the devastating consequences of trust betrayal and emphasizes the importance of seeking justice in instances of prolonged exploitation.
