In a shocking incident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, siblings, along with several already-married couples, allegedly remarried to fraudulently claim government benefits under the Mass Marriage Scheme. This scheme, meant to assist newly married couples from economically weaker sections, provides financial and material support, including Rs 35,000 in the brides bank account, Rs 10,000 worth of essential goods for the couple, and Rs 6,000 to cover marriage expenses.The scam came to light after concerned residents filed a complaint, prompting the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to launch an investigation. According to reports, multiple couples, who were already legally married, manipulated the system by remarrying in a mass marriage event held under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana to unlawfully claim the benefits.Among the fraudulent cases, it was reported that two married couples from Sikandrarao took part in the community marriage scheme, along with a brother and sister, who allegedly posed as a couple. A government employee is also believed to be involved, reportedly orchestrating the scheme to profit from the state benefits.SMD Ved Singh Chauhan assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken against all individuals found guilty of exploiting the scheme for financial gain.The mass marriage ceremony, involving 217 couples, took place on December 15, 2023.
