New Delhi News: Gorakhpur police have busted an organized gang of mobile phone thieves where members were paid a fixed salary irrespective of their success rate. The gang, led by 35-year-old Manoj Mandal, had an extraordinary modus operandi with a pay scale, travel allowance, and even free food. The gang used to snatch mobile phones mainly from crowded railway stations and markets.
Apparently, the members of the gang comprised 19-year-old Karan Kumar and his brother, who is just 15 years old. Apparently, they used to receive a monthly pay cheque of ₹15,000. Though they were paid as employees, the members are given travel allowances in case of outings and food and lodging arrangements apart from salary. Manoj claims that they used to recruit youths educated till secondary levels from his native place in the Sahebganj district and used to train them for three months before distributing theft targets. All those that were successful were integrated fully as members of the gangs and continued receiving their well-consistent pay.
These stolen mobiles are taken across the border into Nepal and Bangladesh, fetching 30-40% of the actual prices in the black market. Reports claim that the gang used weapons to frighten people.
