UP plans to shield crops from heat wave

Amidst severe heat waves, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a comprehensive plan to protect crops during the summer and upcoming monsoon. According to the official press release, to minimize flood risks, targeted advisories are being issued for different districts. Farmers will receive guidance on water management, irrigation techniques, and organic fertilizer use. The plan also focuses on rainwater and groundwater conservation.

As part of this effort, an advisory is being issued based on the technical recommendations of the Crop Weather Watch Group (CWWG) for 27 highly sensitive, 13 sensitive, and 35 normal districts in terms of flood risk, according to a UP government spokesperson in a press release.

Heat wave to continue

Delhi-NCR seems to have no respite from the heat wave soon as the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the northern regions till June 18, especially for the next 4-5 days. Moreover, the heat wave conditions will prevail over Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar.

In the next four to five days, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist over northern areas of India, according to an official press release published by IMD on June 14. However, throughout the course of the next four to five days, significant to extremely heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated areas of Northeast India, Sikkim, and West Bengal in the Sub-Himalayan region.

Meanwhile, Gurugram Police has started wearing cooling jackets to beat the heat.
