UP News: A married woman in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, has endured a traumatic experience that has left her seeking justice. On the night of July 17, when power outages were common, the victim alleged that her neighbor, identified as 32-year-old Kanchu, stealthily entered her home and attacked her. Believing that her husband had returned home, she unknowingly lay down beside Kanchu, who then initiated inappropriate advances.

Assault and aftermath

According to the victim, when she realized the man next to her was not her husband, she attempted to scream for help. Unfortunately, it was too late; she had already been raped. Hearing her cries, family members and neighbors rushed to the scene, confronting Kanchu. A scuffle ensued, resulting in the accused being beaten by the local residents. However, before police could arrive, Kanchu and his two brothers, Gamai and Bora, fled the scene, leaving the victim in shock.

Police response and legal action

Despite the gravity of the situation, the woman reported that when she approached the police to file a complaint, she was dismissed and told to leave the station. Frustrated and helpless, she sought legal recourse by filing a petition with Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon on August 7. Following the court's directive, the police were compelled to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Kanchu.

As of now, Kanchu and his brothers remain at large, with law enforcement actively searching for them. This incident has raised significant concerns about the treatment of sexual assault victims by law enforcement in India. As investigations continue, the community awaits justice for the victim who bravely sought help against her aggressors.
