New Delhi: In a shocking incident from Meerut, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and gang-raped, leaving her unconscious for nearly nine hours in an empty house. The family discovered the victim in a distraught state and rushed her to a nearby hospital. Due to her critical condition, she was later transferred to a medical college for advanced treatment.
The incident occurred in the Lohia Nagar police station area. The minor had left her home around 10 AM on Saturday, heading to a nearby locality to learn sewing as she did daily. When she did not return home by evening, her worried family began searching for her. They later found her unconscious in a vacant house, with visible signs of a brutal assault.
The victim's family has lodged a formal complaint against a young man named Talib, a known acquaintance of the girl. According to the family's account, Talib took the girl on the pretext of showing her a house and gave her a drugged cold drink. He, and others, allegedly assaulted her. The police are awaiting the victim's recovery to record her statement and determine the full extent of the crime, including if more individuals were involved.
The incident has caused widespread outrage in the local community. SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav took to social media to condemn both the crime and the administration's inaction. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav stated, "The government's inaction on the gang rape of a minor in Meerut is as reprehensible as the incident itself."
Police are continuing their investigation, and forensic teams have been deployed to gather evidence from the crime scene. The authorities are also conducting medical tests to ascertain the condition of the victim and identify additional suspects.
