New Delhi: The Noida Sector 20 police have apprehended Sohan Singh, the individual responsible for hacking the Gautam Buddha Nagar District Magistrate’s X (formerly Twitter) account and posting derogatory content about Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Singh was arrested in Burari, Delhi, and the mobile phone used to make the posts has been recovered.
Two days ago, objectionable posts targeting Rahul Gandhi were made from the District Magistrate’s X handle, leading to widespread outrage and confusion. The posts, which also mocked Congress leader Supriya Shrinet, went viral after a screenshot was shared on social media. The posts were intended to troll Shrinet, who had shared a clip of a conversation with historian Ashok Pandey, highlighting the permanence of historical facts.
The misuse of the DM’s official handle sparked a strong reaction from opposition leaders, including Congress' Pawan Khera. Supriya Shrinet condemned the act, accusing individuals with right-wing affiliations of attempting to incite hatred while holding constitutional positions. This led the District Magistrate to issue a public clarification.
In response to the incident, the DM clarified that his official social media account had been hacked by an anti-social element who posted inflammatory comments. The DM expressed his regret over the misuse and confirmed that a case had been filed with the police regarding the unauthorized access and posting.
The case continues as the police investigate the full extent of the hacking incident and its potential motives. The swift action by the Noida police highlights the seriousness with which such cybercrimes are being addressed.
