UP: Accused Sarfaraz encountered in attempt to escape to Nepal amid violent clashes in Bahraich

UP News: In a recent development, Sarfaraz, the accused in the Bahraich communal violence case, was injured during an encounter with the district police on Thursday. Reports confirm that another accused, Fahim, was also injured during the operation. Both Sarfaraz and Fahim, sons of Abdul Hamid who was arrested earlier, sustained gunshot wounds. One was shot in the right leg, while the other was hit in the left. The police acted swiftly as Sarfaraz was planning to flee to Nepal after committing the crime.

Communal violence claims life during Durga puja

The violence erupted during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Bahraich last Sunday, leading to the death of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra. Mishra was fatally shot during the clashes, while six others were injured by stone-pelting and gunfire. The incident triggered widespread unrest, and mobs set fire to homes, shops, hospitals, and vehicles.

Attempted escape to Nepal foiled by police

Authorities revealed that the accused, including Sarfaraz, were attempting to escape to Nepal. On Wednesday, Danish, alias Raja alias Sahir, the fourth suspect in the case, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police from Rajee Chauraha while attempting to flee the country. Police have been intensifying their crackdown, arresting 55 suspects thus far.

CM Yogi Adityanath vows justice

In response to the violence, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met the victim’s family, assuring them that justice would be served. He promised stringent action against those responsible for the violence and pledged support to the grieving family.
