Upon receiving the information, a team comprising of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Manipur Police swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully dispersed the unruly crowd just in time to prevent them from entering the minister’s residence. It is reported that the minister was present inside the house during the incident, and fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

In the meantime, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reassured the public on Friday, urging them not to be alarmed, as operations targeting armed troublemakers had commenced in both the hill regions and the valley areas.

He mentioned that a total of 38 susceptible areas have been identified where joint operations will be conducted by troops from both central and state forces.

The majority of these vulnerable areas are located on the outskirts of valley districts, adjacent to districts predominantly inhabited by the Kuki community. This includes the Torbung area in Bishnupur district, which has been the focal point of the recent escalation of tensions in the state.

Earlier this month, Manipur witnessed ethnic clashes that resulted in the tragic loss of approximately 75 lives. On Wednesday, a renewed outbreak of violence occurred, leading to the burning of several houses in Bishnupur and incidents of shootings across multiple areas. Regrettably, at least one civilian lost their life as a consequence of these incidents.

On Friday, Biren Singh stated that Manipur currently has 34,000 troops from central forces stationed in the state. He noted that their presence has helped alleviate the prevailing sense of apprehension to some extent.

Paraphrase “The primary focus is to establish a favourable and safe environment for the public,” expressed the Chief Minister. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people. The Chief Minister urged the public not to harbour any more concerns, assuring them that joint forces have initiated operations against armed troublemakers.

“We are making every possible effort on all fronts through our government,” he added. He further appealed to the public to refrain from resorting to violent methods in addressing their concerns.

When questioned about allegations regarding the participation of militants, who fall under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, in acts of arson and firing incidents, Singh responded by stating that the majority of militant members have been instructed to remain within their designated camps under close monitoring. This arrangement is part of the agreement between the militant groups, the Indian government, and the state government, with the objective of facilitating dialogue.

“We acknowledge that there may be involvement from splinter groups that are not part of the SoO agreement,” he stated, emphasizing that these elements would be handled separately. He mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has provided assurance regarding the appropriate handling of such elements.
