The man known as Bhole Baba, also recognised as Narayan Saakar Hari, whose satsang on Tuesday led to the deaths of 121 people in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, is a former police officer named Suraj Pal. He served with the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) for 18 years and retired for spiritual reasons in 1990 while stationed in Etah.

Suraj Pal is particularly revered among the lower-middle-class and poor communities in famous regions like Etah-Kasganj and the Braj area.
