Internet services have been suspended for 24 hours in Rajasthan's Udaipur (ANI)

In an effort to maintain peace and restore order, authorities have suspended internet services for 24 hours in Udaipur after a violent outbreak occurred in the district. The unrest was triggered by a shocking incident at a government school, where a Class 10 student stabbed another boy on Friday, leading to heightened tensions in the area. The violent reaction saw vehicles being set ablaze and stones pelted by an enraged mob.

Police response to ensure law and order

To address the situation, the Superintendent of Police in Udaipur has been instructed to enforce strict measures to uphold law and order. The police have been directed to take firm action against anyone attempting to incite further unrest in the district. In addition, five companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been immediately deployed to Udaipur by the police headquarters. Senior officers, including those of the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and Inspectors, along with a significant number of constables, have also been mobilised from neighbouring districts to support efforts in controlling the situation.

Section 144 imposed following school stabbing

The violent episode began at a government school in Bhattiyani Chohatta, where a Class 10 student stabbed another boy under unclear circumstances. The victim was swiftly taken to the district hospital and admitted to the ICU, where his condition is reported to be stable. The incident sparked outrage, leading to the gathering of a large crowd in the Madhuban area of the city. To prevent further escalation, the police imposed Section 144, which prohibits the assembly of people in public areas.

Vehicles torched, shopping mall vandalised

Despite the enforcement of Section 144, the situation escalated as the mob began targeting vehicles and public property. Reports indicate that three to four cars were set on fire, and a nearby shopping mall sustained damage as its glass gates and shopfronts were shattered by stone-pelting. The police are actively working to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the identities of those involved in the rioting remain undisclosed.
