The series of events began in the early hours of February 20 when police in New Ashok Nagar received a report of an "accident" near the Jal Board Treatment Plant. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his mid-30s with multiple stab wounds. The victim was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. This incident prompted an immediate investigation and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
As New Ashok Nagar police investigated the first murder, a second distress call came from Ghazipur Police Station around 11:30 am. A man was found dead behind a liquor shop in the Paper Market area. The deceased, identified as 49-year-old Ramesh, had three deep cut marks on his left thigh. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and discovered four young men attacking the victim. The two incidents, initially appearing unrelated, were soon linked by the same group of assailants.
Recognizing the urgency and connection between the two crimes, Delhi Police formed four teams led by ACP Kalyanpuri and ACP Operations. The teams comprised officers from New Ashok Nagar, the Anti-Narcotic Squad, Special Staff, and Ghazipur Police Station. Investigators meticulously reviewed CCTV footage, tracking movements using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. This swift and coordinated effort led to the identification and apprehension of four juveniles directly involved in the crimes, followed by the capture of the fifth suspect.
According to police reports, the juveniles committed the Ghazipur murder first, fueled by alcohol and an argument with Ramesh near a liquor shop. Afterwards, they traveled to New Ashok Nagar and attempted to rob a passerby near Dallupura Road. When the victim resisted, they fatally stabbed him before fleeing the scene.
The swift action by Delhi Police, aided by forensic analysis and comprehensive use of CCTV surveillance, resulted in the apprehension of five juvenile suspects within 13 hours of the first murder report. This case underscores the effectiveness of modern policing techniques and inter-departmental coordination in solving complex crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice swiftly.
