According to a police official, security forces initiated a search and cordon operation in the Wanigam Payeen Kreeri region of Baramulla district in northern Kashmir in response to a specific tip about the presence of militants on Thursday morning.

According to the police official, the encounter occurred after the militants opened fire on the forces’ search party, prompting the forces to retaliate.

According to the official, during the gunfight, the security forces managed to neutralise two militants, and they are currently working to identify the militants and determine which group they belonged to.

The police official stated that during the encounter, security forces found incriminating materials, as well as arms and ammunition, which included an AK 47 rifle and a pistol, at the location where the encounter took place.

There have been two recent encounters in the Kashmir Valley after a short period of calm. The first encounter occurred on Wednesday when security forces stopped an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control in the Machil sector of Kupwara district, resulting in the deaths of two militants. The second encounter took place on Thursday in the Baramulla district, during which two militants were killed and incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition were recovered.
