In a heartbreaking incident at a community feast in Haryana’s Faridabad, two young girls, aged two and six, accidentally fell into a large pot of hot vegetables on Sunday, August 18. The mishap occurred during a religious event, Bhagwat Katha, held at a temple in Dheeg village, near Ballabgarh town. The police confirmed that the incident led to the tragic death of the two-year-old girl, while the six-year-old suffered severe injuries.

Accident during play

The two children, Jiya (2) and Pari (6), were playing in the kitchen area of the bhandara (community feast) when they slipped and fell into the hot pot of prasad (sacred food) that was being prepared for the congregation. According to eyewitnesses, the cook had just taken the pot off the stove to cool the vegetables when the incident occurred. As the children lost their balance, they tumbled into the pot, leading to the tragic accident.

Immediate response and medical aid

The cook, in a desperate attempt to save the children, burned his hands while pulling them out of the pot. Despite his efforts, Jiya succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Pari was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi for advanced treatment due to the severity of her burn injuries.

Investigation underway

Following the incident, Jiya's body was handed over to her grieving family after a postmortem examination. Ballabgarh Sadar Police Station SHO, Umesh Kumar, stated that while no formal complaints have been filed by the families, an investigation has been initiated to understand the circumstances leading to the tragedy. The villagers, in mourning, threw the remaining prasad into a nearby pond as a mark of respect for the deceased child.
