Mumbai-based travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, aged 27, tragically died after falling into a gorge while filming an Instagram Reel. Kamdar, a chartered accountant known for documenting her travels under the handle @theglocaljournal, had visited the well-known Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra's Raigad district on July 16 with a group of seven friends.
According to officials at the Mangaon police station, Kamdar slipped and fell into a 300-foot gorge while shooting a video. Her friends immediately alerted local authorities, who quickly mobilised a rescue operation.
The rescue team, which included personnel from the Coast Guard, Kolad rescue team, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff, faced significant challenges. "As soon as we reached the spot, we realised that the girl had fallen nearly 300-350 feet. Even after reaching her, it was difficult to get her up, as she was injured and it was raining heavily. So we decided to get her out using a vertical pulley," a rescuer recounted.
The operation was further complicated by large stones continuously falling down the gorge. Despite these obstacles, the team successfully retrieved Kamdar after a six-hour effort.
Kamdar was rushed to the nearby Mangaon taluka government hospital by her rescuers, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment, confirmed the Mangaon police station official.
In light of this tragic incident, authorities have urged tourists to exercise extreme caution while visiting waterfalls during the monsoon season.
