New Delhi: More than 100 unsuspecting pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were left stranded after a travel agent swindled them out of their money by promising a pilgrimage trip to Ayodhya. The scam came to light when the passengers arrived at Madurai airport for their departure and attempted to check-in. Airport officials delivered the shocking news that the tickets they held were all fakes.What exactly happenedAccording to a senior airport official, the deceitful agent charged each pilgrim a hefty sum of Rs 29,000 with the assurance of a complete Ayodhya tour package departing from Madurai. The itinerary included a flight to Ayodhya followed by sightseeing in the surrounding areas. As per the plan, the trip was scheduled to begin today, July 12th, with a connecting flight from Madurai to Bengaluru, followed by another flight to Ayodhya.However, upon arrival at the airport, the pilgrims dreams of a sacred pilgrimage were shattered. Authorities verified their tickets and confirmed that no reservations had been made under their names. The pilgrims, understandably distraught and frustrated, filed a complaint with the airport police.
