PM Modi inaugurated the Vertical Lift Sea Bridge at Pamban

On the occasion of Ram Navami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a big gift to the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vertical Lift Sea Bridge at Pamban in Rameswaram. It is the country's first vertical lift sea bridge. Equipped with modern technology, this new Pamban Bridge can rise over the sea. It is not just a bridge but also a symbol of India's engineering prowess.

Asia's first vertical lift sea bridge is built from Mandapam to Rameswaram. It has been built at a cost of Rs 535 crore. PM Modi laid its foundation stone in 2019. Besides inaugurating the Pamban railway bridge, PM Modi will also unveil other mega development projects worth Rs 8,300 crore. He will offer prayers at the Ramanathaswamy temple.

How will the Pamban Bridge work?

  • First stage: The center span of the new bridge will rise vertically
  • Step 2: Old Bridge Tilted Up
  • 3rd stage: The ship will emerge from under the bridge

What is its specialty?

  • Fully Automated Vertical Lift Span means no need to lift the span manually
  • The bridge will be able to rise up to 22 meters, meaning large ships will be able to pass.
  • Double track and electrification means necessary for high-speed train
  • Rises up in 5 minutes means time-saving, faster reaction

How will the Pamban Bridge work, the train from above, the ship from below?

  • A 63-metre stretch of the bridge will be used to evacuate ships.
  • Sirens will sound when a large cargo ship arrives near the bridge
  • A 63-metre section of the bridge will be raised when ships arrive
  • In 5 minutes a section of the railway track will rise 17 meters (60 feet)
  • The lifting of the bridge for the ship will depend on the wind conditions
  • IF THE WIND IS 50 KM/H OR MORE, THE BRIDGE LIFTING SYSTEM WILL NOT RUN

The wonder of Pamban Railway Bridge Engineering!

  • Country's First Vertical Lift Sea Bridge
  • A vertical lift span of 72.5 m
  • Opens in 5 minutes, closes in 3 minutes
  • The largest ship will be able to pass easily
  • A 6,790 feet long bridge over the sea
  • This bridge is built on the Arabian Sea.
  • Stretches 2.08 km into the sea
  • The bridge will be built at a cost of Rs 531 crore.
