In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a migrant laborer hailing from Bihar became the target of terrorists' gunfire in Bijbehara of Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. Identified as Raju Shah, the victim fell victim to the second targeted attack within the span of 10 days. Despite being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, Shah tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The Kashmir Zone Police promptly responded to the incident, confirming that terrorists had critically injured Raju Shah in the attack. The authorities evacuated him to the hospital, where he later passed away due to the severity of his wounds. As the area was cordoned off, security forces launched a search operation to locate the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act.
With the national elections looming, the attack has stirred political responses across party lines. The J&K unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denounced the attack as a manifestation of the adversaries' frustration, asserting that such acts would not revive election boycott politics in Kashmir. Leaders from various political parties joined in condemning the senseless violence. Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and former J&K CM, condemned the killing as a senseless act of violence, extending her deepest condolences to Shah's grieving family. Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and former CM, echoed the sentiment, calling for unity against such acts of terror and emphasizing the people's desire for peace in the region.
