India News: A three-year-old girl, Chetna, fell into a deep bore well in Rajasthan. The rescue process took 10 days. She was then shifted to the hospital and died.
A three-year-old girl who fell into a 150-foot deep borewell in the Kotputli-Behror district in Rajasthan died on Sunday more than a decade after she had been trapped. NDRF and SDRF teams made every effort to rescue the girl Chetna trapped inside the borewell for a whole 10 days. Earlier, promising rescues turned complicated by layers of hard rock that brought the rescue operations to a slower pace. "Operations like drilling needed to be halted several times, and resumed periodically because the level of complexity triggered by the rock strata was unpreventable," said officials. Chetna could not be recovered alive after repeated attempts by the team.
As the rescue continued, it was heart-wrenching to see Dholi Devi, the mother of the rescued girl Chetna, crying out to the district collector: "What if she were collector madam's child? Would she let her be there for so long?" She pleaded for more action and faster results. But all emotional calls at work, the rescue effort was challenged by physical behaviour. The girl could not be given food and water throughout the 10 days.
Chetna was finally rescued unconscious and rushed to the hospital by rescuers. Chetna was pronounced dead as she was taken to the hospital. The sad fate of the girl overshadowed the rescue effort of the rescuers. Shocked was everyone in the entire community.
Tears of a Family and Cries of Negligence
The family accuses the local authorities of negligence while handling the operation and taking a long time to rescue Chetna, but the officials clarify that a situation like this required more time and expertise.
