Uttarakhand: A road accident in the Srinagar area of Pauri Garhwal district on Sunday claimed six lives and left 22 others injured. The State Disaster Response Force said that the incident occurred near Dahalchauri when a bus lost control and fell into a 100-meter-deep gorge.
The accident occurred when the bus, which had a total of 28 passengers, was traveling from Pauri to Dahalchauri. Some five persons died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to Pauri district hospital, and many locals joined hands in the rescue efforts. Of the 22 injured, eight have been shifted to a higher health care centre in Srinagar because of their serious condition.
The rescue efforts were personally supervised by Pauri District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan, who ensured the victims received immediate medical attention. In the wake of the accident, Chauhan ordered the Transport Department to conduct a thorough probe into the cause of the mishap. Uttrakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep grief over the tragic incident and condoled the bereaved families, wishing for the early recovery of the injured.
The Transport Department officials have been asked to identify the causes that led to the fatal accident. The probe will be helpful in taking necessary steps to avoid such incidents in the future.
