The G20 dinner on Saturday will see some of the richest businessmen attend the event and join world leaders at the Summit venue as the country showcases its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
As China’s economy slows down Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought to wield leadership of the G20 grouping of the world’s most powerful economies to promote India as a destination for trade and investment.
This dinner on Saturday will help Modi with another opportunity for business and investments in India.
The high-profile dinner event will see the presence of some of the top leaders of the world, including U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The gathering will also see the presence of some of India’s richest businessmen. Around 500 businessmen were invited including Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla, Bharti Airtel founder-chairman Sunil Mittal, in addition to Reliance Industries’ Ambani and the Adani Group chairman, sources said.
Adani and Ambani who have rivaled each other across a wide range of industries for a long time will both be present at the gathering. Both have also been ranked, by turns, Asia’s richest person.
“This dinner … will host various state heads and makes for an opportunity to gather India’s Who’s Who during the leaders’ summit,” said one Indian official who spoke about the closed-door event on condition of anonymity.
The Menu for the G20 dinner gathering taking place at Bharat Mandapam, will feature Indian food with a special emphasis on millet, a grain the country has been promoting.
