The Congress has slammed the Narendra Modi-led central government as the first reach across the political spectrum on the Manipur violence, calling the move “too little, too late.” Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said that the centre has woken up only after the former party supremo, Sonia Gandhi’s address to the people affected by the clashes in the state.

The Congress leader also questioned the PM’s absence from the high-level meeting called on June 24. reportedly, the prime minister will be on his visit to Egypt.

Congress leader Venugopal calls PM’s absence “Cowardice”

Calling PM Modi’s absence as “cowardice”, Mr Venugopal alleged, “At the outset, the PM’s absence from such a serious meeting shows his ‘cowardice’ and ‘unwillingness’ to confront his failures. Even when multiple delegations sought meetings with him, he had no time for them .”

Moreover, the Congress leader also did a fierce attack on the Union home minister, Amit Shah. He said that since the union minister visited the strife-torn state, the situation has “worsened.”

The party’s General Secretary asked, “Can we expect genuine peace under his stewardship.”

“The continuation of the partisan state government and non-implementation of President’s Rule is a travesty,” he alleged. 

“Lack of seriousness”

Further, the leader, Venugopal emphasised the efforts to bring the intense matter of concern to the discussion table, and it can not be possible if they are done sitting in the national capital, termed it as “lack of seriousnesses.”

In a tweet, he said, “Any effort for peace must take place in Manipur, where the warring communities are brought to the discussion table and a political solution is arrived at. This effort will lack seriousness if it is done sitting in Delhi.”

Amit Shah calls an all-party meeting on June 24

Amid the ongoing tension in Manipur, Amit Shah has called an all-party meeting on June 24 in the national capital, New Delhi to discuss the issue. 

Briefing about the high-level meeting, the home ministry spokesperson took to Twitter and wrote, “Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah has convened an all-party meeting on 24th June at 3 PM in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur.”

The ongoing violence first broke out on May 3, killing almost 115 people till now and thousands have been displaced. Recently, the Union home minister, Shah visited the state and met people in his effort to bring back peace within the northeastern state.
