Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a US visit from June 21- 24. In these three days, PM Modi will be meeting business executives and Indian expatriates, give a rare speech to the US Congress’s joint session, and attend a state banquet at the White House with US President Joe Biden.

Taking it to Twitter, PM Modi mentioned, “Leaving for the USA, where I will attend programmes in New York City and Washington DC. These programmes include Yoga Day celebrations at the @UN HQ, talks with @POTUS @JoeBiden, address to the Joint Session of the US Congress and more.”

According to the information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit of PM Modi will start in New York where the Prime Minister will lead the celebrations of the International Yoga Day at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.

Thereafter, PM Modi will receive the ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22 and meet President Joe Biden to continue their high-level talks, followed by the State Dinner in honour of PM Modi, the same evening.

PM Modi will also address the Joint Sitting of the US Congress on June 22.

Noteworthy here is, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to address a joint session of the United States Congress twice.

On June 23, apart from other official engagements, PM Modi is also expected to address the gathering of over 1,500 Indian Diaspora in Washington.

Mastercard, Accenture, The Coca-Cola Company, Adobe Systems, and Visa are among the top 20 corporate executives of US businesses that are anticipated to meet with the prime minister.

After this, PM Modi will then travel to Cairo to pay a state visit to Egypt from June 24-25.

How is America getting ready for Modi’s visit?

From making tri-colour garlands, to multi-millets cuisine, US is all set to welcome PM Modi. The meal will be created by Californian vegan chef Nina Curtis, and the evening’s music will be performed by Grammy Award-winning musician Joshua Bell as part of preparations for Modi’s visit. According to the sources, Jill Biden selected Chef Curtis because of her “experience with plant-based cuisine.”

The White House executive chef Cris Comerford, the White House pastry chef Susie Morrison, and Chef Curtis will collaborate to create the supper meal.

Modi will spend the night in the White House as a guest of the Bidens and be their dinner guest on Thursday.

PM Modi’s blog post ahead of US visit

In a blog post, PM Modi said, “The special invitation from US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden is a “reflection of the vigour and vitality of the partnership between our democracies.”

He further mentioned, “I will commence my visit in New York, where I will celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 at the United Nations Headquarters with the UN leadership and members of the international community. I look forward to this special celebration at the very location that supported India’s proposal in December 2014 to recognise an International Day of Yoga.”

“I will thereafter travel to Washington D.C. President Biden and I have had the opportunity to meet several times since my last Official Visit to the USA in September 2021. This visit will be an opportunity to enrich the depth and diversity of our partnership,” he added.

“India-US ties are multifaceted, with deepening engagements across sectors. The USA is India’s largest trade partner in goods and services. We collaborate closely in science & technology, education, health, defence and security fields. The initiative on Critical & Emerging Technologies has added new dimensions and widened collaboration to defence industrial cooperation, space, telecom, quantum, Artificial Intelligence and biotech sectors. Our two countries are also collaborating to further our shared vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific,” he added in the blog post.
