Jahan who is also a Bengali actress as well as the Lok Sabha MP from Bairhat has been registered under a case by the ED after a complaint was filed by a group of senior citizens. They accused a real estate company of cheating by promising them flats in the New Town of Kolkata. According to the complaint, Jahan is a former director of the company.
Moreover, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shankudeb Panda has also filed a complaint alleging that she deceived people of ₹5.5 lakh on the promise of selling them apartments.
Around 429 people are reported to have been scammed by this company. The victims mostly comprised retired bank employees who were allegedly cheated by a real estate company after each of them deposited ₹5.5 lakhs to purchase flats. However, they claimed that they neither received any flat, nor their money.
The Trinamool Congress has, however, told media persons that she had resigned from the company in March 2017. Jahan also said that she had earlier taken a loan worth ₹1.16 crore from the company, which she later returned with interest, amounting to ₹1.47 crore.
The Trinamool MP also assured that there will be full support and cooperation from her side if summoned by the agency.
