New Delhi: Maharashtra’s Minister of Food and Drug Administration, Dharmaraobaba Atram, made shocking remarks urging voters to cast away his daughter Bhagyashree and son-in-law Rituraj Halgekar for allegedly committing 'treachery.' The senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader’s comments came amidst reports that his daughter might switch allegiance to the rival NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar.

Public outburst in Aheri

Atram made these controversial statements in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during a public event in Aheri as part of the 'Jansanman Yatra.' The event was aimed at promoting the Mahayuti government's welfare schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. His outburst was triggered by rumors that Bhagyashree could contest against him under the banner of Sharad Pawar's NCP faction.

Atram's fiery speech

In his fiery speech, Atram accused his daughter and son-in-law of political betrayal. “People in our family are using my political influence to join another party. Now, they are fielding my daughter against me. Don’t trust her,” Atram declared, addressing the voters. He added, “Everyone should throw them in the nearby Pranhita River. How can a daughter who betrays her father serve the people?”

Atram’s remarks were met with loud applause and slogans from the crowd, sending shockwaves through political circles.

Ajit Pawar's appeal

Ajit Pawar, who was present at the event, acknowledged Atram’s concerns and appealed to Bhagyashree not to contest against her father. Pawar referred to Atram’s years of political experience and urged his daughter to remain loyal to her father, warning that challenging him could be a mistake. "Wrestling is popular here, but the master doesn't teach every trick," Pawar said, implying that Bhagyashree might regret turning against her father.

Despite the drama, Atram reassured his supporters that he was not worried about his electoral prospects, stating that the rest of his family, including his son and another daughter, were still by his side.
