Three-year-old raped and assaulted in Greater Noida; Accused arrested after gunfight

In a shocking incident, a three-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to rape and assault in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida. The local police arrested the accused following a confrontation that involved gunfire. The distressing episode occurred on Thursday evening.

The toddler was found in a field outside Rabupura town when a passerby heard her cries. Promptly, the matter was reported to the local police station, initiating immediate action.

The minor was sent for medical examination and necessary treatment, while her family lodged a complaint. Consequently, an FIR was registered against the known perpetrator under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to rape, kidnapping, and also under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to police sources.

Following the incident, an intense exchange of fire erupted between police officials and the accused, resulting in the latter sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. Subsequently, he was apprehended and transported to a medical facility under police custody for urgent medical attention.

The accused snatches police's pistol 

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Greater Noida, Ashok Kumar Sharma provided insights into the swift progress of the investigation. He disclosed that the accused, identified as Rahul Gautam, confessed to the offense during interrogation. The officer added that the accused snatched the pistol of police and tried to flee. 

In retaliation and self-defense, the accused was shot in his leg.  The rape of a minor girl also triggered an outpour of anguish by locals,  who gathered at the Rabupura police station and demanded action against the culprit.
