Indian Army exchanges fire with armed infiltrators in Operation ‘Resham’

In a joint operation by the Indian Army and local police termed Operation Resham, the 16 White Knight Corps of the Indian Army exchanged gunfire with armed Pakistani infiltrators in the Gulpur area of Krishna Ghati sector. The operation was based on intelligence gathered regarding infiltration operations along the LoC.

“The forces, on the intervening night of June 23 and 24, noticed some heavily armed terrorists were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side,” said Lt Col Devender Anand, Defence PRO, Jammu.

“After the encounter started, the three terrorists tried to run back but were engaged by the alert troops. They [terrorists] were seen falling down near the Line of Control (LoC),” Lt Col Anand added.

One Indian Army personnel suffered gunshot wounds, while the three infiltrators were shot and evacuated – allegedly by the Pakistani army – to the Pakistani side of the Line of Control. An Indian Army official said, “In the firing, three infiltrators were hit by bullets and they were taken away by the Pakistan army.” The Indian Army was unable to confirm if the infiltrators shot were dead or injured.
