The Septa: Mukhtar Ansari's life journey is a tale of contrasts - from being born into a prominent political family to becoming a notorious figure in the world of organized crime. Despite his family's esteemed background in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, Ansari's path veered into the shadows of criminality. The 60-year-old gangster turned politician was admitted to Banda Medical College hospital on Thursday, after facing a heart attack. He was declared dead, eventually.

Through seven key points, we unravel the trajectory of Mukhtar Ansari's life, from his prestigious roots to his eventual downfall under the weight of legal scrutiny and governmental crackdowns.

1. The Legacy of Prestigious Roots

Mukhtar Ansari's lineage traces back to a family recognized for its political eminence in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. His grandfather, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, a distinguished freedom fighter, served as the President of Congress in 1926-27. His maternal grandfather, Brigadier Mohammad Usman, was honored with the Mahavir Chakra for his valor in the 1947 war. Ansari's father, Subhanullah Ansari, maintained a spotless reputation in Ghazipur politics, and his uncle, former Vice President of India Hamid Ansari, further added to the family's political legacy.

2. The Cricket Enthusiast Turned Gangster

Despite hailing from a prestigious family, Mukhtar Ansari's journey took a dark turn when he joined Sadhu Singh's gang during his college days. This decision propelled him into the world of organized crime, making it challenging for him to steer away from the path he had chosen.

3. Rise to Infamy: The Notorious Gangster

Mukhtar Ansari's notoriety soared, particularly in Mau and its adjacent areas, where he garnered praise before the Yogi government's tenure in Uttar Pradesh. Once feared across the state, Ansari's influence was palpable, with his hideouts striking fear into the hearts of many.

4. Political Forte: A Sway in Legislative Affairs

Ansari's political prowess saw him become a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for 24 consecutive years, representing various parties except the BJP. Winning his first election on a BSP ticket in 1996, he secured victories in subsequent elections despite being incarcerated in different jails across the country.

5. Turning Point: Krishnanand Rai Murder Case

The year 2002 marked a pivotal moment in Ansari's life when BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai wrested the Mohammadabad assembly seat from the Ansari family, igniting a deep-seated rivalry. Rai's subsequent murder in 2005 thrust Ansari into the spotlight, implicating him in the high-profile case.

6. Legal Battles and Allegations

Krishnanand Rai's assassination, orchestrated with ruthless precision, saw assailants unleash a hail of bullets on Rai's vehicle, leaving no chance for escape. Ansari's name surfaced in connection with the murder, leading to a protracted legal battle that saw the case transferred from UP Police to CBI and eventually to a Delhi court.

7. The Downfall: A Crippling Blow

With the arrival of the Yogi government, Mukhtar Ansari's fortunes took a downturn. Facing an onslaught of legal actions, including the demolition and confiscation of properties worth over Rs 192 crore, Ansari's once formidable empire crumbled. Despite his incarceration, his gang continued its operations, albeit with diminished influence, as the long arm of the law closed in on his illicit activities.
