The chilling tale of Bareilly: Police reveals how serial killer caught after murdering nine women

In one of the major developments, the Bareilly Police through ‘Operation Talaash’ has arrested the wanted criminal Kuldeep Gangwar, a name that has sent shockwaves across Uttar Pradesh. Gangwar, who preyed on women in isolated areas, would first approach them with heinous propositions. If the women resisted, he would strangle them to death using a dupatta or sari.

In Bareilly district alone, nine women fell victim to this brutal crime, sparking fear and outrage within the community.

How did police nab the accused?

The police launched "Operation Talaash," a massive manhunt to bring the serial killer to justice. The operation involved 22 dedicated teams and an exhaustive review of footage from over 1,500 CCTV cameras. To enhance surveillance, an additional 600 cameras were installed across the district. The investigators combed through data from 1.5 lakh mobile numbers and deployed officers in disguise, equipped with body-worn cameras, to monitor suspicious activities. After weeks of relentless pursuit, the authorities finally apprehended Kuldeep Gangwar, putting an end to his reign of terror.

Gangwar’s troubled past reveals the roots of his deep-seated animosity toward women. After losing his mother at a young age, he was raised by a stepmother who subjected him to abuse and neglect. This mistreatment fostered a growing resentment towards women, which ultimately manifested in his horrific crimes.

Police also re-created the scene by taking victim to the fields, where he committed the crime.
