New Delhi: As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its upcoming assembly elections, Union Minister Amit Shah is set to unveil the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto during a two-day visit. The elections, scheduled in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, have already intensified political activity in the Union Territory.

Transformation of Jammu and Kashmir

Amit Shah will launch the BJP's manifesto, called the Sankalp Patra, on Friday. In his agenda, he emphasized the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir from a "terrorist hotspot into a tourist hotspot" under the Modi government. He praised the region’s progress in economic and educational activities, crediting the administration for ushering in an era of peace and development.

Shah credited the Modi administration with restoring peace and stability to Jammu and Kashmir, a region that had previously faced persistent violence and unrest. Under the current government, security measures have been strengthened, and counter-terrorism efforts have been significantly improved. This has led to a decrease in militant activities and an overall enhancement in the safety of the region's residents and visitors.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Shah expressed his excitement, saying, “J&K is witnessing a new era of peace and development under the Modi government. The region has transformed from a terrorist hotspot into a tourist hotspot.”

Assembly seats breakdown

The BJP is campaigning to secure significant wins in the 90-seat assembly, which includes 7 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). In the previous elections, the BJP secured 25 seats, trailing behind the People's Democratic Party (PDP) with 28 seats. This election season, the Congress has allied with the National Conference in a bid to gain ground. Polling is expected to be highly competitive, with the BJP banking on the progress it claims to have brought to Jammu and Kashmir.
