In the aftermath of the tragic killing of former Jammu and Kashmir Police officer Mohd Shafi by terrorists during prayer at a Baramulla mosque, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha vowed that the "cowards responsible for this barbaric act will not be spared."

Unidentified terrorists opened fire on the retired police officer, Mohd Shafi, while he was offering prayers at Gantmulla mosque in Baramulla, adding to the prevailing tensions in the region following recent ambush attacks.
Villagers and family members gathered to pay their last respects to the slain former police officer, offering prayers amid the shock and mourning. The local community came together to remember the service and tragic loss of Shri Mohammad Shafi Mir.
The younger brother of the deceased, Abdulkareem Mir, recounted the morning tragedy, highlighting Shafi's regular attendance at the mosque for the 'Aazan.' The unexpected interruption in the call to prayer turned out to be a fatal gunshot, shocking the community.
Following the attack, the immediate area was cordoned off as security forces responded to the incident. The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the attack on Mohd Shafi and cordon off the region.
The incident added to the heightened state of alert in the region, with ongoing search operations for terrorists in the forests of Rajouri after the recent ambush attack that claimed the lives of four soldiers.
