Maharashtra: Security has been increased in Mumbai following a social media alert that warned of possible Hindu-Muslim riots, fire-setting, and bomb blasts during Eid festivities on March 31 and April 1. The posting identified areas such as Dongri, where "illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators" were rumored to be behind the mayhem.
The Navi Mumbai police responded to the threat message, inquiring of the sender if he had a mobile number where more details could be given. The cyber cell initiated a technical inquiry for tracing the origin of the individual behind the posting.
The same person also forwarded a similar message to the Delhi Police and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, advising them to stay on guard during Eid. The message specifically indicated localities such as Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, and Jahangirpuri as the targets.
Delhi Police had already beefed up security arrangements for Eid celebrations and last Friday prayers in east Delhi. The police have made sure maximum personnel will be on patrol duty, and proper pickets will be taken to ensure law and order.
