On March 2, 2025, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and Haryana's Special Task Force arrested Abdul Rehman, a 19-year-old suspected terrorist, from Pali village in Faridabad. Rehman was reported to have links with the Islamic State Khorasan Province. His plan was to carry out attacks at the Ram Mandir, Ayodhya. Based on the inputs, officials apprehended him before he could move forward with his plans.
Rehman has revealed under interrogation that on March 4, he was going to Ayodhya with the purpose of laying explosives in the Ram Mandir. It was decided that he was to travel by way of a train to New Delhi and from there take a bus to avoid detection. His handler had given him a detailed map with clear instructions guiding him on where to go. The investigators also recreated the industrial site in the village of Pali for more evidence.
Police recovered two mobile phones that contained compromising videos and contact numbers. These phones have been taken up for forensic analysis at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Experts have started analyzing the call logs and video evidence for clues that could blow the lid off the entire operation. The link has also been established with sleeper cells in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Delhi.
Rehman's activities indicate he had contacts with terrorist networks in several states. He was in Delhi, visiting the Markaz four months ago and subsequently going to Visakhapatnam. This raises suspicions of possible complicity with some relating issues in Andhra Pradesh. Investigative agencies are working to trace his handlers and collaborators.
Rehman is currently in judicial custody for 10 days. Due investigations into his links with global terror groups and domestic sleeper cells are underway by the authorities. It shows the utmost importance of vigilance against the evolving threats.
