Technological Intervention: AI-enabled camera captures two intruders at Simlipal National Park

In a bid to monitor forest fires, wildlife movement, and the activities of poachers, the Odisha government has recently installed AI-enabled cameras at Simlipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha. According to the information, the camera has been installed in the protected areas of the state.

Through his post, the Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer and wildlife enthusiast, Sushanta Nanda shared some pictures that appeared on the camera. He assured us that the intruders would be apprehended soon after their pictures were released. ''AI-enabled camera sends the real-time picture at 11.30 am. The intruders are apprehended in the next few minutes. Securing Simlipal Tiger Reserve,'' he wrote, sharing pictures of the two men.

Praising the same, another user wrote that all other tiger reserves should also install the same.

According to the reports, the AI cameras installed at the tiger reserve are closely monitoring the forest. The cameras will help detect the fire points as soon as the turmoil occurs anywhere in the forest and will help track the usual activities of humans inside the reserve. 

Simlipal National Park

Simlipal National Park spreads over a 2,750 km square area with a core zone covering almost 1,194 km square. According to the sources, the reserve is divided into two distinct zones: the Southern Zone, which includes highlands like Meghasani and Khariburu, and the Northern Zone known for its gradual sloping mountains and has destinations like Barehipani, Joranda, Sitakund, and Lulung, all actively promoted for tourism.
