In a shocking incident from Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district, a woman teacher, identified as Ramani, was brutally stabbed to death inside the staffroom of the Mallipattanam Government School on Wednesday, November 20. The horrifying attack occurred in full view of her colleagues. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, leaving the teaching community and the public in shock.

Authorities detained the suspect hours after the incident, citing personal reasons as the motive for the attack. While further details remain under investigation, the police assured the public that justice will be delivered swiftly.

Tamil Nadu government condemns the attack

Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi condemned the attack and assured stringent legal action against the perpetrator. “Violence against teachers is intolerable. We deeply mourn the loss of Ramani, whose death is a great loss to the teaching fraternity,” he stated. The minister directed the district collector to declare a holiday for the school and initiate counselling sessions for affected students and staff.

Chief Minister Stalin announces Ex Gratia

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin described the incident as “shocking and painful.” Offering condolences to the victim's family, he announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. He emphasised that the accused would face maximum punishment under the law.

Opposition criticizes state government

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticised the ruling DMK government for its failure to maintain law and order. "Murders and crimes have become rampant under this regime. The Chief Minister must prioritise public safety," he said in a statement.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for enhanced security measures for government employees.
