New Delhi: A controversial display at Tamil Nadu temple festival in Kanchipuram's Kuruvimalai area sparked outrage when a photoshopped image of former adult film actress Mia Khalifa was placed alongside a picture of the Devi deity. The unauthorized hoarding, created by an unknown individual, depicted Khalifa in traditional Indian attire and was removed after residents reported it to the authorities, who promptly took action.

Incident surfaces from local temple in Kanchipuram

The controversy unfolded at the Sri Mappillai Vinayagar Temple complex, a sacred site dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Sri Nagathamman and Sri Chelliyamman deities. A large hoarding appeared at the Chelliyamman temple within the complex, marking the beginning of the auspicious Aadi month and its annual celebrations. 

This year's event was the 12th edition of the festival, which has traditionally been a local affair, known only to nearby residents. However, the unauthorized inclusion of Mia Khalifa's image on the hoarding has unexpectedly brought the event into the national spotlight, attracting widespread attention online.
