The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has accelerated the process of interrogating terrorist Tahawwur Rana. This time, the NIA's attention is on questioning a mystery witness against Rana, who was very close to Rana. The witness may expose many of Rana's secrets, such as important information about the Mumbai attack plot and conspiring to organize terror activities in some other cities.
This witness was also a close aid of Tahawwur Rana who coordinated David Headley's reception in Mumbai in the year 2006. Upon Headley's arrival in Mumbai, he was dispatched to capture videography of key places and thus further developed the Mumbai attack plan. This witness's name has been concealed in the court for security reasons, but this witness can now become significant to the NIA. Through this witness, the NIA is able to obtain valuable information regarding the plans and terrorist activities between Rana and Headley.
According to NIA officials, further information is still to be gleaned from Tahawwur Rana. David Headley, along with Rana, had also plotted attacks in other cities of the country besides Mumbai. The interrogation of the NIA is also likely to yield more information regarding Rana's plans.
Tahawwur Rana and David Headley were very close to each other. Headley had been in contact with terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami. The NIA wants to question Rana deeply regarding his contacts with these organizations and the attack.
On Thursday, Tahawwur Rana was flown in to Delhi on a chartered plane, where he was held in NIA custody. Rana will be interrogated intensely for 18 days. The NIA hopes that Rana can provide valuable information that would expose the identity and intentions of other conspirators behind the Mumbai attack.
The probe by NIA has finally reached a new turn which will now be confronted by Tahawwur Rana shortly in the form of the mystery witness, with whom Rana used to be tight, but his testimony can now prove decisive against Rana. The showdown has the potential of revealing some bigger secrets, not only that would bring forth proof against Rana, but it will also become vital for security of India from terror operations.
The NIA move is a part of initiatives to make the nation more secure from terrorists. It is also hoped that other conspiracies involved in the 26/11 attack can be brought to the surface and the chain of terrorists can be severed.
