Advertising veteran Sylvester deCunha, the creator of the iconic ‘Amul Girl utterly butterly’ campaign that started in 1960, took his last breath on Tuesday night in Mumbai. The saddening news was reported by the Gujarat-based milk cooperation on Wednesday.

Advertising veteran Sylvester deCunha died in Mumbai

Taking it to Twitter, the managing director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Jayen Mehta shared a heartfelt note about his demise. He wrote, “Very sorry to inform about the sad demise of Shri Sylvester daCunha, chairman of daCunha Communications last night (Tuesday) at Mumbai.”

What was deCunha known for?

The legendary advertising veteran conceived the ‘utterly butterly’ campaign for Amul in 1966 which introduced the famous ‘Amul Girl’ to the entire globe and continues even today. 

After the demise of deCunha, his son Rahul deCunha will now sit on the throne of the advertising agency started by his father. 

Several political leaders paid tribute 

Several political leaders including Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and others paid tribute to him and extended their condolences to the family. The Congress leader also recalled that Amul’s iconic leader V Kurien had acknowledged his creative genius.

Moreover, TMC (Trinamool Congress) MP Derek O’Brien termed Sylvester daCunha as an advertising legend in a post shared on Twitter and extended his condolence.
