Swati Maliwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member, clarified her presence in the United States during the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Maliwal revealed to India Today that she travelled to the US in March to attend a seminar at Harvard University.I went to the US to attend a Harvard conference and participated in various meet-and-greet events organised by AAP volunteers, Maliwal stated. Her stay was prolonged when her sister, residing in the US, contracted Covid-19. All my belongings were at her [sisters] house. Then, I had to undergo quarantine, the former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief explained.Maintaining Party ConnectionsDespite being abroad, Maliwal asserted that she remained in close contact with AAP leaders in India. I was tweeting and talking with AAP leaders. I did whatever I could do at that time. Therefore, to say that I was not working with the party at that time is unfortunate, she emphasised.Allegations of Unequal TreatmentMaliwal expressed concerns over what she perceived as unequal treatment compared to her colleague Raghav Chadha. Chadha, another AAP and Rajya Sabha member, was in the United Kingdom for an eye operation during Kejriwals arrest and has since returned to actively participate in election rallies with Kejriwal. I really want to understand why I have been given this kind of treatment, while the other Rajya Sabha MP, who was in London, got a red carpet reception, Maliwal remarked, without directly naming Chadha.Assault Incident and ComplaintThe controversy around Maliwal intensified following an alleged assault incident at Kejriwals residence on May 13. According to Maliwals police complaint, the Delhi chief minister was present at the time of the incident, which involved his personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar.
