Renowned former minister and sitting BJP MLA in Tripura, Surjit Dutta passed away on Thursday morning in a private hospital in Kolkata.Dutta, the MLA from Ramnagar assembly constituency, had been ill for a long time.Initially, he was under treatment in a private hospital in Tripura and was later airlifted to Kolkata for further treatment.He was previously with Congress and joined the BJP ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections.The veteran leader served as a Cabinet Minister in the Congress-led coalition government between 1988 and 1993.
